The club has started the New Year off to a good start. Andrew is now taking all the candidates through their 5th and 4th Kyu grading syllabus requirements. Everyone's grading date can be found on the relevant page on the site. I have now received the new Bushinkai Kanji from Italy. I will show the scroll off on this coming Thursday's practice. Please see below a picture of our current Aikido Kanji scroll for the Kamiza area.

I have decided to postpone the gradings in July, and move them all to September. Grading preparation has also been suspended until further in the year. As most of the club is attending this years Summer School, I have moved everything on a few months.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Mark for passing his 5th Kyu examination. On the whole the grading was excellent. Although some things need a little work, I am more than happy with the standard. Well done.

Further congratulations are in order for Dai. I sprung his 4th Kyu grading on him, and he completed it with very few mistakes. Due to his college work and other commitments, I was more than pleased with the flow of the grading, and the knowledge demonstrated. Well done.

The final Kyu grading took place tonight, with Neil being promoted to 5th Kyu. Although, he has many business commitments, he still provided a very good grading. Certain techniques were delivered to a very high standard. I don't think he needs any further coaching on any Kokyu Ho techniques.I have been very pleased with all the gradings that have taken place over the last few weeks. Our policy of keeping them few and far between, is one I am very happy with. The standard has been very high, and something which everyone should be rightfully proud of. Andrew has worked hard to keep everyone up to speed, and gaining valuable instruction experience. He will be a great asset to the club, when he finally makes the transition from Kyu to Dan grade status. More details to follow in the emailed monthly newsletter.

It is with regret I inform all club members, Ken Cottier Shihan died yesterday. I was lucky enough to train with Cottier Shihan in Manchester circa 1991. I would like to express our sadness at this news, and pass on our condolences to all his family, friends and students.

Congratulations to Lewis on passing his 6th Kyu Examination. Lewis has worked hard since joining the club. I am looking forward to seeing him attempt his 5th Kyu in 2009. Well done.

The club's annual meeting will take place on Thursday 4th September, after class in the Bridgend pub. As we still do not currently have a committee, the agenda will be as follows.
Reading and amendments to the Clubs Constitution.
Finance of rent to the Community Centre.
Any other business.
Everyone is encouraged to attend, as all changes will effect the club as a whole. We do not conduct the meeting in a formal way, as a committee is not in place. Everyone has a voice, provided you are a member of our club. The definition of a club member, is someone with training insurance with the Shin Gi Tai/BAB and in possession of a blue club grading book.
The any other business section is a chance for you to speak up and voice any opinion you may have. If you cannot make the meeting, make sure you pass your question or comment to someone who will be there, and it will be voiced on your behalf. It would be very helpful if you write it down and sign it.

Andrew & I have just returned from the SGT Summer School. Ian managaed to make the Bank Holiday Monday session. We all enjoyed 99% of the course, with new friendships made. A course will be planned in 2009 with one of those new friendships. More details of that will be circulated on the internal newletter shortly. Please note the message above regarding the Meeting, which is now been upgraded to a full AGM! I have placed some comments on our club forum. If you are a club member, and do not know the password to get in, please email me.

Ian & I travelled up to Sensei Ellis's Dojo in Bracknell on Monday night. We received instruction from Sensei Eastman & Sensei Lyon. As with any trip to an ESTA Dojo, we were given a very warm reception. We would like to thank Sensei Ellis & Sensei Eastman for allowing us to train with them. We always enjoy our sessions, and will always continue to support ESTA in anyway we can.

I would like to advise, Ian is now the Clubs new Child Welfare officer. As we now have a few students under the age of Eighteen, Ian will be given the job to liaise and make sure everything runs smoothly in the Club with regards to our under Eighteen students. The Club Constitution has been altered and now shows the age of entry to sixteen. No students under that age will be allowed entry. Spectators will still need to be aged eighteen or over, unless accompanied by an adult.

I would like to congratulate Ian on passing his 2nd Kyu examination. It's something I sprung on him at very short notice. Although there was a worrying time during his Bukiwaza grading, that a failure was on the cards, he remembered two all important components at the last minute. I was more than happy with his commitment to the club, and his advancement over the last 12 months. I'm sure in the near future; he will make a very good Dan grade. Well done.

Andrew took Gethin through the 6th Kyu grading syllabus, only as a taster session, and decided he was good enough to pass this grade. I agreed with his decision. Looking through all the previous timings, this is the first person to pass this grading within such a short space of time, after joining the club. I would like to congratulate Gethin on this achievement.
25.09.08
With our continued effort on health and safety within the Dojo, the mats were cleaned again this evening. I would like to thank Ian for helping me to carry out this thankless job. In the future, I would like to see more club members getting involved in this task/activity.
